Meet Dr. DeAndrea Fleming

“I don’t just believe in strong schools—I’ve done the work to rebuild them.”
Dr. DeAndrea Fleming is an educator, leader, and proven change agent who has spent more than 25 years improving outcomes for students, strengthening leadership, and helping systems move from instability to results.
She has served at every level of education—as a teacher, department chair, instructional coach, assistant principal, principal, and central office administrator. That experience gives her a real-world understanding of what works, what doesn’t, and what it takes to move a district forward.
Dr. Fleming holds a Bachelor of Business Administration in Marketing with a minor in African American Studies from the University of Houston, a Master’s in Educational Administration from Prairie View A&M University, and dual Master’s degrees in Training and Development and Educational Technology from Texas A&M University–Commerce. She also holds a Doctorate in Counseling.
Education is personal to her. The daughter of a retired DeSoto ISD teacher and a graduate of Dallas ISD, Dr. Fleming chose to raise her own children in DeSoto ISD. She understands firsthand how board decisions impact real families, classrooms, and futures.
She previously served as a Trustee and Board President during one of the most critical periods in DeSoto ISD’s history under state conservatorship. During that time, the district improved from an F to a B in financial accountability, from an F to an A in governance, and from a D to a B academically—driven by disciplined leadership, transparency, and a clear focus on student outcomes.
Dr. Fleming has been recognized as TABSE and SWABSE School Board Member of the Year and earned Master Trustee status through Leadership TASB. She has also testified before the Texas State Board of Education advocating for equitable curriculum and opportunities for all students.
Today, she is the founder of Mark of Resilience, where she coaches leaders, educators, and organizations on identity, resilience, and transformational leadership.
Her commitment is clear: restore stability, rebuild trust, and ensure every decision puts students first.
